In general, I’m a pretty low maintenance person. However, I’ve been told that I am a difficult person when it comes to breakfast. Personally, I don’t understand what is so wrong with wanting coffee within seconds of sitting down, ordering only one pancake because that’s all I can eat, and requesting things be on separate plates so my over-medium, unbroken eggs never come in contact with syrup. That being said, let me tell you where heaven is in Carteret County at 6am: 4 Corners Diner.
Angels (and they are angels!) greet you enthusiastically when you come in, bring coffee immediately, and will let you order anything you want to order. They don’t look at you funny or say things like, “OK, but the English muffin is extra,” (even if it is) or “The pancakes only come in a short stack.” Hands down, this is the friendliest wait staff in the county! The food is fabulous, home style, diner cuisine- reasonably priced, good portions, excellent selection.
And I’ll tell you what- you warm the cherry topping before putting it on my Mickey Mouse shaped single pancake and you just might make it into my will. The ONLY drawback is that the secret is out. There will be a wait after about 7am, sometimes earlier. It is most definitely worth it (and remember, I’m “difficult”) but if you’re famished, there are viable alternatives.
