Palatable local knowledge for the North Carolina diver

Aqua

One of my favorites, Aqua used to be strictly a “tapas” restaurant….you know…appetizer-sized plates designed for sharing. I guess, though, between America’s gluttonous eating habits and people’s general aversion to sharing, they caved and have started serving “big plates” too.

Aqua is quite contemporary — very chic for a seaside town, if I do say so myself. The food is extremely well done- interesting, aesthetically pleasing, and tasty. The menu has excellent variety and you’re likely to see Greek, Asian, Mexican, and Italian inspired dishes (the menu changes regularly). I really enjoy going with a small/medium group, ordering a couple of dishes at a time, eating, drinking, and socializing.

WARNING — This is not a place to go with a picky eater or a non-sharer….it disrupts the system. Yes, they can order a Big Plate but in the end, they’ll just feel left out. Another plus for Aqua is their wine list — a wide selection of reasonably priced bottles, which I always appreciate. Good place for the martini drinker as well.
